The Board

The Board is responsible for governing Bathurst Basketball United according to the Constitution and Fair-Trading legislation. The Board will make informed decisions in the best interest of the organisation and members. The vision and strategy which underpins the operation of the Association will enable BBU to create opportunities for players, referees, coaches and officials to develop and enjoy basketball in Bathurst and the region.

Heather Latham: Elected Director

Biography
Heather has many years’ experiences as a Lecturer, Course Manager and Curriculum Consultant at Charles Sturt University. She has served as a Board member both within the University and on external Higher Education Boards and Professional Accreditation Bodies. Heather also has experience as a board member with diverse groups within the local community. Through this involvement she brings to the Board experience in leadership, management, administration, governance, policy development and education.

Heather has a long association with basketball in Bathurst, as a manager for teams participating in the Western Junior League competitions and the Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup. Heather was Publicity Officer for Bathurst Goldminer Basketball for several years in the 1990’s.

Nicole Roland: Appointed Director (From 26 June 2023)
Role on the Board: Governance/Policy/Legal Aspects

 

Biography
Nicole is a solicitor currently practicing solely in Family Law and is employed by King Cain in Bathurst. She was admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of NSW on 22 April 2016 and to the High Court of Australia on 29 June 2016. Nicole has completed a Master of Applied Law (Family Law)
with a view to become a Law Society Accredited Specialist in Family Law. Included in the legal knowledge and experience Nicole brings to the Board are skills in research, analytical thinking, communication, negotiation, mediation as well as highly developed interpersonal skills. Nicole is experienced in working with a wide and diverse range of people from different socio-economic backgrounds. Since moving to Bathurst to live in 2021 Nicole’s family have become part of the Bathurst Goldminer’s basketball community.

Melissa Sullivan: Elected Director
Role on the Board: Treasurer/Public Officer/Registrar

Biography
Mel has years of experience working in the Finance sector as Business Finance Manager in Forbes and previously in the Banking and Credit Union sector. Mel is currently working as an Executive Assistant at Vivability. Mel brings to the Board extensive experience in finance and budgeting, policy development, strategic planning, and administration. 

Mel has previously assisted in establishing the Forbes Junior Basketball Association. Mel played basketball for Bathurst Goldminers from Under 14 Girls through to Women’s State League, until having children. Mel has a passion to grow basketball in Bathurst and provide a pathway for juniors to develop and
be able to continue playing the game at a senior level both locally and at state level with a focus on being diverse and fully inclusive for all participants.
